Nick's Picks: The Keg Tree at Genesee Brew House

Genesee Brew House is kicking off the holiday season tonight in the most Rochester way possible, lighting up a three-story tree made up of 430 Genesee beer kegs. The only thing missing is a garbage plate as the star on top.

The tree, twenty-seven–feet tall and made up of eleven rows of empty stainless steel kegs, is decorated with 2,000 feet of festive lights and a rotating Genesee neon sign. This towering spectacle will be on display in the Brew House parking lot until the beginning of January.

In conjunction with the tree lighting, Genesee is releasing a limited-edition brew called Keg Tree Ale. Aged for over a year in wet Kentucky bourbon barrels, this seven-and-a-half percent ale aims to encapsulate a holiday flavor with notes of bourbon, Madagascar vanilla, and caramel.  The Keg Tree Ale is available for purchase in growlers and crowlers while supplies last.

There is also a charity element involved in Genesee’s holiday celebration. The brewery is decorating St. Paul Street and High Falls Terrace Park and aligning with Project Hope to provide opportunities and assist the communities surrounding the brewery.

The ceremonial lighting of the Keg Tree will take place outside the Genny Brew House tonight at 6 p.m. The celebration will go from 5–7 p.m., with holiday music, food, delicious beer, and an expected crowd of at least 1,000 people.
