Nick's Picks: New York Beer Project

New York Beer Project is not like any brewery I’ve seen. Before arriving in Victor at its 300 High Street location, I expected to see the staples of so many other craft breweries: a small, dingy bar area, maybe ski ball or a shuffleboard, a few stools or picnic tables, and a menu filled with items like popcorn, tater tots, and potato skins. Instead, what I walked into was a grand, chic, magnificent space that looked like it belonged to a three-Michelin-star restaurant in New York City, not a brewery in Victor.

Within its two-story, 15,700-square-foot expanse, New York Beer Project boasts a large, horseshoe-shaped bar and gastropub, a huge dining room, a tasting room housing a second bar, a mezzanine event space and communal area outfitted with a third bar, an indoor beer garden, and a rooftop terrace. The decoration and design is immaculate, with wood and brick used throughout, limestone bar tops, multiple large chandeliers, and forty-six-feet-high ceilings. Like New York Beer Project’s first location in Lockport, the Victor site expects to attract visitors from all over the Northeast.

The food menu, which, in terms of size and ambition, rivals plenty of popular local restaurants, offers elevated versions of bar classics like Bavarian soft pretzels, quesadillas, and charcuterie boards, as well as sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers, pizza, and seasonal entrées like carribean salmon and filet mignon.

Margarita, bourbon, and martini flights highlight a strong list of craft cocktail options at each bar. The main event though, obviously, is beer. On its opening tap list, New York Beer Project offers several of its own signature creations and an assortment of options from other area breweries.

New York Beer Project is open until 12 a.m. tonight for its grand opening.
