Nick's Picks: Maybird

Backed by Grammy-winning producer Danger Mouse and recently, Patrick Carney of the Black Keys, local band Maybird plays its August 4 show at the George Eastman House in the midst of an ascent to stardom.

Founded by front man and Rochester native Josh Netsky, Maybird employs a unique sound that could have been plucked from a stage at Woodstock in 1969. Meandering guitar riffs and hypnotic, understated vocals make up Maybirds, woozy, nostalgic, psychedelic pop feel.

After toiling with their sound and ethos in studio and at regional bars like the Bug Jar for years, Maybird caught a break in 2016 with a phone call from Danger Mouse, who stumbled upon their music on the streaming platform Soundcloud. The producer signed Maybird to his record label, 30th Century Records, and introduced the band to Carney, who produced the bands most recent album, Unraveling.

Concertgoers can look forward to songs from Unraveling as well as the band’s previous two projects, Turning into Water and Down and Under, at their show August 4. The event starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are available here.
