In 12 Years a Slave, Solomon Northup recounts his experience as a free man who is kidnapped as an adult and sold into slavery. 12 Years a Slave is one of the longest and most detailed slave narratives written.   On Saturday, February 22nd, among other topics, we’ll discuss why the slave narrative is important in terms of perspective, voice, three-dimensionality, inciting pathos during its time, and the context in which we read it in the 21st century. Meeting time is 10 a.m.   Then on Wednesday, February 26th, we'll watch a screening of the critically acclaimed film adaptation at Main Street Arts. Screening begins at 6:30 p.m.   Light refreshments will be offered at both the book discussion and the film viewing.    Sulfur Books has new and used copies of 12 Years a Slave for sale.    This event is free, pre-registration is required: https://store.mainstreetartsgallery.com/store/p3920/book-to-film2.html
